Opium – Opium is the controlled substance that is exuded from the immature fruit of the opium poppy. It has the effect of numbing pain and causing hallucinations and spiritual visions. It is highly addictive. In some ancient belief systems opium is a channel for reaching the spirit world and being able to understand the workings of the universe. However, since our spirit is trapped in a body that will not let go of it until we die, our spirit, after tasting the freedom found in opium wishes to take more frequent journeys outside of that body.
